JUMBO DISASTER: Bury Council's Derby Hall was labelled a "white elephant" after it was revealed it was losing money at the rate of £9,000 a year. The hall costed £11,000 a year to run but was only getting £2,000 a year back in booking fees.
BATMAN AND ROBINS: Bury was set to spend part of the record £70,000 they received for the transfer of Brian Williams with the signing of Oldham Athletic midfield star Ian Robins for £25,000.
BACK TO SCHOOL: No sooner had the school summer holidays began than Bury Co-op were advertising the sale of new uniforms. The total cost of a blazer, coat, blouse, jumper, skirt and PE kit for a girl was £37.14p.
DEEPLY HIPPY: Music fans started invading farmland and erecting tents for the Deeply Vale pop festival. Mr Frank Turner, whose father owned land in the Ashworth Valley, said hundreds were expected to turn up for the weekend gig.
