I FIND it incredible that the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety is planning to employ a marketing team, using funds allocated for road safety, to fend off negative remarks (LET, July 11).

The comments are generally negative because receiving a fine through the post does very little, if anything, to make you a safer driver.

We have also seen a number of very experienced drivers question the approach being taken, so it isn't only those who have been caught that are complaining.

If there is so much 'road safety' money available can we please see the rebuilding and reopening of the Ewood Road Safety training Centre.

The skidpan there provided affordable and worthwhile training for all.

People travelled from outside the county to make use of a facility which would improve their car handling skills and which is generally not available to the public.

This was only one of the many worthwhile road safety training initiatives undertaken by the staff at the centre.

Is the only road safety message we are allowed that which is fed to us by the Partnership, hence the need for a marketing team?

Alternatively, for the cynics among us who believe in road safety through training, does affordable driver training not generate enough revenue?
