A SPECIAL presentation was made at Prestwich Police Station just in the "nick" of time before it closes!

A group of officers were in line to receive their Queen's Golden Jubilee medals for service of five years or more, which marked the last official occasion before they are re-located to alternative premises in Fairfax Road.

And pictured at the presentation are (from left) PC Ian Smith; Chief Inspector Charlie Ellis, making the presentations; PC Chris Wood; PC Dominic Carroll; PC Alan Carter; Sgt Ian Campbell; Inspector David Jones.

As reported in the Bury Times, the current building, Hornby Lodge, in Bury New Road is up for sale and the police station is to be moved to the town centre location in Prestwich after years of searching for a suitable site.

The presentation also coincided with the imminent departure of PC Alan Carter who is set to join the force in North Wales.

Insp David Jones, head of Prestwich and Whitefield Township, who was a recipient of the Jubilee medal, said: "This was our last official piece of business, if you like, at the station and we thought it would also be nice to record PC Carter's departure. We are all looking forward to moving and things have gone out to tender on the new station to smarten it up a bit for us."

Insp Jones said he now expected the move to take place in September or October.
