CREATURES great and small will be flocking to town on Sunday (July 21) for Bury and District Agricultural Society's diamond show.

And organisers are hoping the people of Bury will come out and show their support for the countryside following last year's cancellation of the event because of the foot and mouth crisis.

Alan Booth, the society's chairman, said: "The show has in the past attracted crowds upwards of 10,000 and we hope they can show their support for the farmers who have suffered a lot because of the crisis."

Billed as a family event, it will be take place on Burrs Country Park showground. Competitions will start at 7am and main attractions will start at 10am and go on until 4.30pm.

The Bury Times girls will be there to make sure the day is a headline-grabbing success. The show will feature a children's corner, veteran cars, pet dog show, farmer's market, birds of prey display and much more. The grand finale will take place at 3.30pm.

Organisers have put on a free bus service to the showground, which will run at regular intervals from the East Lancs railway station in Bolton Street, Bury.

Entrance fees are £4 for adults (£2 concessions). Admission is free for under-12s.

Money raised will be divided among four charities to be decided after the show.
