RAIL users across East Lancashire could be grounded because of further strike action by ASLEF the train drivers' union.

The union announced three 48 hour strikes, on July 28-29, August 4-5 and August 11-12, as part of the on-going dispute with First North Western over pay.

The strikes will severely affect services across East Lancashire and travel to the Commonwealth Games.

The second action will coincide with the Queen's Jubilee visit to Preston on August 5.

First North Western employs 850 ASLEF drivers. They want pay rises to match those of drivers at Arriva, which operates the Trans-Pennine service through East Lancashire.
