WASTED LIVES: Five deaths of motorbike riders in Bury over two months was causing the police concern.
Four male bikers died in separate accidents on the borough's roads and one pillion passenger also lost her life. In each case the accident did not involve any other vehicle.
Chief Supt Frank Tomlinson said: "I am concerned that there has been so many accidents. It is a terrible waste of young lives and I would urge all motor cyclists to take more care."
BARE FACED: After swimming for an hour in the baths at Castle Leisure Centre, Michael Fairhurst's aim was to get dressed quickly and go home.
However, his plans came to an abrupt halt when he opened his locker: for every piece of clothing had been stolen. Left with only his trunks Michael of Watling Street, Bury, was loaned a rather over-sized jumper and a pair of pumps and given a lift home.
