IT seems an unlikely combination, but comedian Johnnie Casson and band leader Andy Prior are getting together for a unique Blackpool concert in the autumn.

The pair have agreed to put their respective talents on show at the Pleasure Beach's Globe Theatre for a one-off show in aid of the Variety Club of Great Britain's Blackpool branch.

So what format will the event take? Well, the two stars are still working on that one. But from conversations at a press call the other day, they are upbeat about the outcome.

Johnnie, who has been a regular in summer seasons in Blackpool, admits he can't sing, so that's not on the agenda.

"But my middle name is Dorsey," he revealed. "My dad was a big fan of the band leader Tommy Dorsey and so I was named after him.

"I wanted to play the trombone when I was a kid, but they reckoned I was too small, so I took up the drums instead.

"Perhaps we can work something into the show so that I can get on the drums," said Johnnie before asking Andy Prior to write something specially for the concert.

Andy, who will be fronting his big band for the event, is excited about the prospect of playing at the Globe which he considers to be a great venue. "It's almost like working in the round -- the audience is on three sides so it should have a great atmosphere."

The Casson & Prior show is at the Globe on Thursday, October 17 with proceeds going to local charities. Tickets are £15 adults, £7.50 for children aged up to 12.
