ANTI-SMOKING campaigners hope that the Commonwealth Games will bring a breath of fresh air!

They have produced a guide to hotels, restaurants and cafes across the region which cater for non-smoking diners and drinkers.

The Roy Castle Good Air Award Guide lists which of the premises across Greater Manchester have been given either a gold award (completely non-smoking), or silver (no-smoking areas).

The booklet has been produced by North West ASH (Action on Smoking and Health), and AGMA (Association of Greater Manchester Authorities).

Catherine Davies, North West regional co-ordinator for ASH, said she hoped to extend the guide to cover the whole North West.

"People want to enjoy an evening out with friends in a nice happy atmosphere," she said. "They don't want to be coming home with their clothes smelling like an ashtray and waking up the next day with an itchy throat."

Bury MP David Chaytor has signed Parliamentary motions calling for more smoke-free public spaces.

For a free copy of the guide, send an SAE (A5 size) to Catherine Davies, North West ASH, Regional Office, 4th Floor, 21 Silver Street, Bury BL9 0EN. Or ring 762 3166.
