THE Clarets trip to the Isle of Man ends with a match against the host team in Ramsey tonight and manager Stan Ternent declared: "I'm very happy with the way it has gone.

"Tonight's match will be another good work-out for us but, as ever, this is more about getting fit and ready for the first day of the season than winning matches.

"If I was desperate to win over here I would get the players back two weeks earlier and come here that bit fitter.

"My teams have never had that good a record here, even when I was with Bury, but it is always a worthwhile trip.

"The pitch at Ramsey tonight is not the best but we know what to expect and it serves its purpose and gives us more match practice. I hope to give most of the players another run-out.

"Other than that it is a great trip to help develop the right team spirit and the camaraderie that is already in the squad.

"They are a good bunch of players and they do get on well and that is important.

"We have to stick together and have a bit of fun but business is still business. The lads get the chance to hit a few golf balls, go swimming and use the gym because we have got some excellent facilities here.

"They have to get fit as the start of the new season is just over two weeks away but I am happy with the way it is all going.

"The trip has served us very well and we are looking to hit the ground running as we did last year. There is no reason with the run of the green that we can't do that again.

"After we get back we will take on Bolton and then go to Bury and that is two good games for the fans being local derbies."

Ternent made seven changes after the first game and also used all five of the permitted substitutes and so he is likely to switch his personnel around again for tonight's match.

Nik Michopoulos is set to start in goal after Marlon Beresford played the full 90 minutes against Luton Town on Tuesday afternoon. Mark McGregor and Marlon Broomes could make way for Arthur Gnohere and Steve Davis while young Greek striker Dimitri Papadopoulos will be eager to get another chance to impress after a lively display against Wrexham in the opening game on Sunday.

Glen Little, who was an impressive sub against Luton could start but Ternent has made it clear that he wants as many people as possible to get the chance to "stretch their legs".

It is exactly two years ago that Isle of Man celebrated their greatest ever result with a 1-0 victory over Burnley at the Douglas Bowl. It remains their only victory over professional opposition in more than a century of football.

The following season saw Burnley finish seventh on their return to the first division, further illustrating Ternent's point that the results over here are less important than the actual match practice.

But there is no doubt the Manx-men will be desperate to see history repeat itself.
