WEST INDIES all-rounder Keith Semple may have led Darwen to the top of the Northern Premier League - but that doesn't mean he is happy with his form.

The 31-year-old, who turns 32 next month, scored just 10 in the rain-affected winning draw at title rivals Netherfield on Saturday, and hasn't been happy with his performances previous to that either.

But as long as the team keeps winning, the Guyana star is more than satisfied.

"Things could have been a bit better for me personally," said Semple, who bats at number three for Guyana and has played for the West Indies one-day side.

"It's not that I am not pleased with our form and I am batting well, I'm just not getting big scores.

"I started the season well but just in the past two or three weeks my form has dipped."

Earlier in the year, Semple enjoyed big knocks against Leyland, on the first day of the season, and Blackpool, his biggest score of the year at 113.

And he thinks the big hits will return - just in time to boost the club's push for their first title in three years.

"I don't think I need to change anything, I think the big scores will return."

Semple is mostly known for his batting but, ironically, he is happy with his performance with the ball.

"I have got a few wickets lately," he said. "It has just been frustrating because of the weather, we have had three games called off which we probably would have won.

"But of course we are pleased about where we are in the table, five points clear, and if we keep playing this way we can win it.

"We have a good team, with some pretty good young players. The main reason we are top is because of players like Andrew Mercer who has been bowling really well, and Gareth Cordingley who has been batting well.

"As long as the team keeps winning, that's the main thing."

Semple is now in his third season with the Birch Hall side and would like to return for a fourth.

For a man who could live in 'paradise' in the West Indies but instead has chosen to spend the last 10 years in chilly England - first in Staffordshire, then in Yorkshire and then on to Darwen - the commitment is pretty impressive.

"I would like to return to Darwen next year but we haven't sorted that out yet," he said.

Darwen travel to Fleetwood tomorrow and all-rounder Mick Horsfield is confident that the Darwen team can come away with a result against a dangerous side.

"I believe if we show our usual commitment we can come away with the points. A win is absolutely vital in our quest for the title."

Chorley are at home to Blackpool.
