ANDREW Conquest was given more than just a piece of plastic when "put up" to commit credit card fraud.

Blackburn magistrates were told that the Padiham teenager was also given the date of birth, address, income details, password and even the maiden name of the mother of the card holder.

Conquest, 18, of Burnley Road, pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain a £1,033 laptop computer from PC World using a card in the name of Mr J Williams.

He asked for another offence of obtaining sports equipment worth £193 from JJB in Burnley to be taken into consideration. The case was adjourned until August 28 for pre-sentence reports.

David Leach, defending, said Conquest had effectively terminated his previous employment and as a result had been left with significant debt problems.

He had a £1,000 overdraft and also owed money to several mobile phone companies. He met a person called Richard Nelson, whom he had named to police, who suggested he could make some money by using a credit card he would provide.

"As well as the card he was given detailed information concerning the card holder and saw this as a way of making some money," said Mr Leach.

He said the only information Conquest had not been given was the £1,000 transaction limit on the card and because the laptop and carrying case had gone beyond that amount, the bank had to be contacted.

Mr Leach said that since his arrest Conquest had gone back to the police and provided them with an address for the other man.

"He has also secured himself a job with a travel company which he is likely to start in the next few weeks," added Mr Leach.
