BURNLEY ended their Isle of Man tour with a 5-0 defeat of the hosts and Stan Ternent immediately declared: "I hope they invite us back."

The Clarets manager is a big fan of the Steam Packet Football Festival and he was again satisfied with his side's efforts in Ramsey last night.

Two goals for Robbie Blake and one apiece from Dimitri Papadopoulos, Andy Payton and Steve Davis ensured there would be no repeat of the shock exactly two years ago when the Isle of Man recorded their only ever victory over a professional side.

Indeed the Clarets could have scored many more to leave Ternent happy with the exercise.

"We passed the ball quite well and it was another good work out," he said. "We played some quite nice stuff and we had to be patient, we knew that.

"We created a lot of chances but we did that in all the games we played here to be fair. It was nice to put a few away because the most difficult thing is to score.

"We have got good fitness levels but we need to get them a little bit higher but we have got Bolton and Bury to come."

Five of his 21 man squad were unavailable for selection last night with Gareth Taylor, Brad Maylett, Ian Moore, Gordon Armstrong and Ian Cox all nursing little knocks and niggles but Ternent said: "I hope that they will be available for the Bolton game but we will have to wait to see what happens."

The rest of his 16 players all took part and Marlon Broomes again showed why Ternent is keen to add him to his squad with an assured display, albeit against weak opposition.

The other Marlon, keeper Beresford, came on a the interval and was forced to make a couple of late saves as the hosts looked for a consolation.

Blake, who took both goals with aplomb, also looked to be closer to showing why ternent paid £1million for him earlier this year.

A more serious test awaits on Wednesday with the visit of Bolton to Turf Moor and the only games that really matter start exactly a fortnight today.

But once again it has been a worthwhile exercise and the Clarets return to Burnley ready to step up the work so that they hit the ground running when they play Brighton and Hove Albion.

They travelled back early this morning and will be back at Gawthorpe on Monday.

And Ternent will be keen to return to the Isle of Man next year as he said: "This is a fantastic place to come.

"It is so relaxed and a great place for team spirit."

The travelling support who have had a good week on the island will raise a glass to that.
