FIREFIGHTERS discovered two youths having a barbecue when they responded to a fire call out at a Leigh DIY store.

Night staff at the B&Q store, Kirkhall Lane, called the firebrigade at midnight last night after they smelt smoke coming from outside the shop, and assumed there was a fire.

When firefighters arrived they found two youths cooking on a disposable barbecue in the fire exit at the back of the building.

A spokesman said: "They had the full monty -- chicken, sausages, the lot -- but when we arrived they scarpered without even tasting it. We didn't eat it though, it wasn't quite cooked!"

No damage was caused to the store.
