PLANS to create 20 bedsits for use by refugees in a house and former bail hostel have been approved by councillors.
Numbers 70 and 72 Preston New Road, Blackburn, will be used for the scheme, put forward at a meeting of the planning and highways committee by Colony Homes Ltd, based in Epsom.
The application was approved despite concerns by Conservative councillor Alan Cottam that the council should not be approving accommodation which relied on shared bathrooms.
But Coun Michael Barratt, a Labour councillor, backed the plan and said: "I can show you many, many homes in this borough which are much worse."
