ANDREW Nolan claimed he had been assaulted by a taxi driver for leaning on his car.

But Blackburn magistrates heard it was Nolan and his friend who were arrested when police attended a dispute outside the offices of Silverline Taxis in Darwen Street.

Nolan, 21, of Oxford Drive, Knuzden, and Simon Brian Nixon, 21, of Brookway, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly. Nolan was fined £75 with £65 costs and Nixon was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £65 costs.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said Nolan was advised to go home by police who said any complaint he made would be investigated. He was abusive and when Nixon was arrested and placed in the police van Nolan questioned the police actions in even more abusive terms. Nolan said he had been assaulted by one of the taxi drivers for leaning on his car.

"He punched me and that was how it all started," said Nolan. "I'm very sorry."
