BURNLEY - perhaps inspired by the exploits of their team mate James Anderson for Lancashire, produced one of their best performances of the summer.

They rattled up a mammoth 261-4 against Ramsbottom at Turf Moor on their way to their fourth successive win.

Opener Ben Law hit 59 - 50 off 69 balls - with seven fours and one six. Law shared a stand of 58 with Dave Brown for the third wicket, and Brown went on to score a magnificent 117 not out.

It was his maiden 100 for Burnley and he is the club's first amateur into three figures since Jonathan Harvey in 1995.

Brown's 50 came off 67 balls, his 100 off 99 and, in total, he hit 14 fours and three sixes. He shared an unbroken stand of 118 for the fifth wicket with Gareth Halley, who hit a career best 40 not out.

Ramsbottom's hopes of making a fight of it died with the departure of professional Michael Clarke. He was bowled in the fifth over shouldering arms at a straight one from his Burnley counterpart Pierre Joubert for 10.

And the visitors were eventually bowled out for 158.

Church chalked up an emphatic maximum points victory over Colne at Blackburn Road.

The visitors couldn't cope with the bowling off Terry O'Neill, who collected an impressive haul of 6-41.

The only real resistance came from Jeff Ellis (20), professional Adnan Malik (38) and David Spokes (27) as Church wilted in the heat to 136 all out.

In reply, Church professional Mark Higgs was in explosive form. He hit 91 not out in just 55 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes (his 50 coming off just 37 deliveries).

Higgs was so dominant that he shared a stand of 50 for the second wicket with opener Alex Holt in which Holt did not score a single run!

Mark Aspin joined in the fun by adding a rapid unbeaten 31 as Church reached the victory target in a mere 17 overs.

There was a batting feast at Thorneyholme Road where Todmorden out-blasted Accrington in a game which produced over 500 runs.

Star of the show was Centre Vale club's substitute professional Tushar Arothe, who took full advantage of a couple of lives to amass a phenomenal 189 not out and set a new record for a professional with the Todmorden side.

Arothe hit 20 fours and six sixes and dominated a partnership of 187 with Matthew Brierley, who finished with 38 not out.

It was enough to take Todmorden up to 275-3 in their 50 overs.

Despite such a daunting prospect, Accrington fought hard and thanks to 64 from professional Andre Seymore, 85 from Mo Ahmed and 43 from Matthew Wilson, they at least picked up some points for their efforts, as they finished on 241-7.
