A WAR veteran and Valley sports supporter has been invited to meet the Queen when she visits Preston next month.
Walter Whittaker, 79, of Staghills, Newchurch, has been sent his "Royal appointment" and said: "I am very pleased about it."
He is hoping he will get the chance to speak to the Queen when she visits the Guild Hall on her Golden Jubilee tour.
Walter, who served with the East Lancashire Regiment and is now a member of the Rossendale branch of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, is a member of many sporting organisations including the North West Sports Council.
