A TEENAGER was taken to hospital after being punched in the face when targeted by two men in a car.

Police today appealed for information following the incident at 11.30am on Sunday.

The 16-year-old victim, who does not wish to be named, was walking close to Burnley Football Club's Turf Moor ground.

Officers investigating the assault said the incident began when two Asian people drove past a young couple in Harry Potts Way, Burnley.

Officers said they were were simply "minding their own business" when they were targeted.

The two Asian men in the car began shouting at them from the vehicle. They stopped but then drove off but only travelled around the block before returning.

One of the men then got out and punched the teenager in the face.

Detective Sergeant Peter Simm said: "They were just walking along on a quiet Sunday morning when a car stopped and two Asian males began shouting something at them.

"They carried on walking and the car drove off but only went around the block before stopping next to the 16-year-old boy. One Asian then got out of the car and punched him in the face which knocked him unconscious. They then made off in the car."

The teenager was taken to Burnley General Hospital to be treated for cuts to the back of his head and a lump to the left hand side of his face.

Police are urging anybody who was in the area at around 11.30am on Sunday to contact them on 01282 472144.
