A TEENAGER attacked two brothers with an iron bar and a knife in an unprovoked assault.

Lee Raven, aged 19, also knocked one of them out with a milk bottle during the incident, and left the other with a fractured nose after punching him in the face.

Raven, of Parnham Close, Radcliffe, broke down in tears yesterday as a judge sent him to custody for four months.

At Bolton Crown Court he admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against each brother.

Prosecutor Sarah Spear said the Abbott brothers had been out with friends and were walking home when Raven screeched to a halt in a car.

He got out waving an iron bar around and screamed abuse at the group before leaving.

Minutes later he returned with his girlfriend and, while she argued with Christian Abbott's fiance, Raven made a lunge at him with a knife, shouting: "I'm going to stab you."

He laughed as the knife lunge missed and then hit Mr Abbott over the head with a milk bottle, knocking him unconscious before repeatedley punching his brother to the ground. The victim needed an operation on his broken nose so he could breathe normally.

The court heard that Raven had two convictions for driving while disqualified and two cautions -- one for handling stolen goods and one for assault.

When he was arrested later, Raven claimed to have been at his cousin's house in Kearsley all night.

Raven claimed he had stopped because the group had strayed into the road after they left the pub.

He worked at one of his father's three textile shops and would be promoted to manager at some time in the future. He also helped with an underprivileged children's charity.

Judge Derwin Hope said Raven had attacked two people using the weapons and that he had no alternative but to send him to a Young Offender's Institution.
