Bury 4 Shrewsbury Town 3 by Steve Bott

NIGEL Jemson returned to Gigg Lane yesterday and turned a walk in the park into a bit of a nightmare for the Shakers.

Bury were 4-0 up after a 10 minute, three goal burst at the start of the second half, but Jemson went one better with an eight minute hat-trick that really made the Shakers sweat.

Bury started badly when George Clegg had a 15th minute penalty palmed away by Ian Dunbavin after he had brought down on-loan Polish striker Pawel Abbott as he raced through onto Danny Swailes' long ball.

The Shakers discomfort lasted just five minutes as they went ahead when Lee Unsworth's shot went across goal and struck the far post before rolling agonisingly along the line and Newby made sure by thumping the ball into the back of the net.

Only a minute after the restart on-loan Terry Dunfield shot Bury into a 2-0 lead. Clegg went some way to atoning for his earlier errors with a fine cross from the left which left leaving the Canadian unmarked at the far post.

After 53 minutes Abbott scored with Newby the provider. Newby was on target again three minutes later when Abbott returned the compliment with yet another cross from the left which left Bury's popular former Liverpool ace with only Dunbavin to beat, something which he did in emphatic fashion.

It was inevitable that Bury's foot would come off the pedal and Jemson pulled a goal back in the 65th minute.

The former Bury man volleyed in from Lowe's cross for a goal that looked as if it would merely be a consolation for a side that had been pushing towards the top of the division after their previously bright start to the season.

But Jemson was not about to give up the fight and he struck again in the 67th minute with a free kick that he floated over the wall past the badly protected Glyn Garner in the Bury goal.

It looked like their lapse in concentration was going to cost them even more when Jemson completed his hat-trick after 73 minutes, crashing the ball in at the far post after a header from Redmile was only partially cleared.
