LEIGH MP Andy Burnham has written to the victims of June and July's flooding to reassure them of the measures that have been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.

The torrential rain that occurred first on June 14, then July 3 flooded many homes and businesses in the area, particularly in Hindley.

Now Mr Burnham has written, not only to those who were flooded, but also to their neighbours, to outline what steps have been taken to prevent a repeat and to offer advice to those who were flooded.

He said: "I have seen the devastation these floods have brought to many people's lives. Though I have provided direct support for individual constituents, I have campaigned on this issue to address immediate problems and to agree a course of action with Wigan Council and United Utilities to tackle these problems at the root cause.

"Inevitably I will not have written to everyone, so if anyone would like more information do not hesitate to contact me at my office at 10 Market Street, Leigh."
