VOTERS are being given a prize incentive to make sure they are on the electoral roll.

Forms will be soon coming through letter boxes carrying the names of every one registered to vote in local, national and European elections.

Residents are being urged to make sure they are correct and make any necessary amendments.

As an incentive, every completed form returned to the council's elections office before Monday September 16 will be entered into a prize draw.

Councillor Gill Campbell, executive member for communications and community development, said: "Individuals are required by law to give the information requested on the forms, but that aside we believe it is essential that everyone retains their right to vote.

"If you are happy with the way the council is working on your behalf, or if you are not, using your vote is one vital way in which you ensure your involvement with local democracy."

Coun Campbell added: "From a practical point of view, the electoral roll is also used by many agencies to check identities when individuals apply for credit. If your name is not on the roll, you may find difficulties in obtaining such credit."

She said that anyone who does not receive a form in the next couple of weeks should contact the elections office on 253 5113 or 5114.
