LEYLAND'S floodlit cricket festival has been hailed a success and could be repeated again next year.

The festival, at Fox Lane, started on Sunday when an Asian Select XI beat a Northern League select side.

Leyland Farrington CC chairman David Bradshaw said: "The atmosphere at the matches has been superb and we've had good crowds.

"It has cost us a quite a bit of money to hire the lights but we are hoping we will break even financially.

"And if it encourages more youngsters to take up the game then it has been worthwhile.

"We are going to discuss this experiment with the Northern Premier League and see if more teams can get involved in future

"This is the way forward for club cricket."

Leyland beat Leyland Motors in a special mini-tournament on Tuesday and will play the winner of the St Annes versus Preston match in the final on Friday.

The festival ends on Sunday, with a match between a Northern League Select XI and either Darling CC from Dehli, India, or a Palace Shield Select XI.

Two sides of partially sighted cricketers play today (Thursday).
