STAN Ternent reflected wistfully on another two goals for striker David Johnson in midweek and admitted: "It is not just him I wanted to bring in."

The Nottingham Forest striker has been in electric form this season netting four times already and he has admitted his good start is partly down to his loan spell at Burnley at the end of last season.

Johnson was a big hit at Turf Moor as he netted five goals in just eight games but a permanent deal to bring him to Burnley was not possible.

Johnson himself confessed that he wanted to team up with Ternent again having enjoyed success under him at Gigg Lane but instead he is starting to show fans at the City Ground why the club paid £3million to Ipswich for him a couple of years ago.

His rich vein of form just highlights the problems the Clarets currently have in front of goal with just Lee Briscoe's late strike against Brighton to their credit.

"You always have a concern about scoring goals because that is the hardest thing to do," he said.

"But having said that it only takes a second to score a goal. We have got the players who can score and we scored quite a lot last year."

The inability to sign Johnson is just one frustration for Ternent who has also missed out on both Marlon Beresford and Marlon Broomes this month.

"If you go back to base camp, last year I let a few players go, getting them off the wage bill because I wanted to bring four or five new faces in.

"What happened since has seen to that and so we will have to go with what we have got.

"I know we have got quality in the squad but maybe it is just not enough. At the moment we are in a bad patch but I am sure we will finish a lot higher than we are now."
