THE Rossendale Horticultural Show Society have appealed for new members.

The show has been going for more than a hundred years and was formed during the early 1900s.

The organisation is now looking forward to staging their next autumn show in November but are currently desperate for new members.

Membership secretary Elaine Moore said: "We are urging any new members to come forward and get involved with the show. We want all age groups to come and join us to get the numbers flourishing again.

"As an extremely small committee we are in urgent need of new members.

"We are always short of committee members and lately we have been really struggling to find a secretary."

If anybody is interested in joining or helping out in any way then they should contact Mrs Moore on 01706 828780.

Meanwhile the future of Ramsbottom Horticultural Society has been secured with two people to fill the secretary's job.

Ron Smith decided he was to stand down after for five years and there was a struggled to fill the position before a couple, who regularly take part in the show, declared an interest.

They will be initiated at the next society meeting on Tuesday September 17 at Ramsbottom British Legion.

Chairman Malcolm Roberts is delighted that the pair came forward to lend their support.

He said: "We were getting worried at one point and the societies future had a black cloud hanging over it until we found somebody.

"It was a relief when they came to us and expressed their interest because I was carrying out the role as well as my own which was getting to be hard work.

"We can now look forward to a sunny future and get on with plans for the next show without having to worry about if there is going to be one or not."
