A FATHER and son ran amok in a Blackburn town centre pub, causing more than £800-worth of damage by throwing bar stools.

Colin Michael Hamer, 39, of Glasson Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to affray and causing £670-worth of damage in the Old Merchants, in Darwen Street. Colin John Hamer, 18, of Joseph Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to affray and causing £190-worth of damage.

They were remanded on bail until October 11 for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

Ian Rushton, prosecuting, told Blackburn magistrates the offences arose from a frightening period of unruliness, during which the defendants caused a great deal of damage by indiscriminately throwing bar stools around.

"Perhaps the most aggravating feature is what the landlord, Adrian Gardner, says in his statement happened to the man in a wheelchair," said Mr Rushton.

"He was effectively ejected from his chair and while he was on the floor he was kicked by the son. That man declined to make a statement about what happened."

Mr Blacklidge said the allegations relating to the disabled man were not accepted.

"My clients had been ordered to leave the pub in the afternoon and were again asked to leave in the evening," said Mr Blacklidge. "Mr Hamer senior admits that he 'lost it' and caused the damage complained of."

The court heard that the difference in the value of damage was due to Colin Michael Hamer being responsible for throwing bar stools through two expensive windows.
