A STRETCH of motorway from Simister to Oldham is to undergo a £10 million facelift.

Work on the M62 is due to start on October 14, which will involve a new road surface, improved lighting, new safety fences, drainage work, and the strengthening of two bridges.

The project will also include resurfacing of the M66 from junction 2 to 4.

The Highways Agency said some lane closures would be unavoidable, and a 50mph speed limit introduced.

Project manager Graeme Freeman said: "This is a busy motorway, and while extensive planning has gone into minimising the delays, we do expect some journeys to take longer, especially at peak times."
