CLIVIGER Guides held their first meeting after the summer break on Thursday.

As several girls have not returned, younger girls who are waiting to progress from Brownies will be able to join in the next few weeks.

This Thursday a coffee evening in aid of Macmillan Nurses is being held in Church House, starting at 7.30pm.

A cup of tea or coffee and cake will cost £1 and there will also be a raffle. All proceeds will go to the charity.

THE September meeting of Cliviger Parish Council was held in the Village Hall, Holme Chapel, on Friday.

The meeting was attended by representatives of United Utilities, who are carrying out preliminary studies with a view to siting a wind farm on land on the border of Cliviger parish, at Dunnockshaw.

They wanted to gauge the opinions of councillors on wind farms in general, and were pleased that the consensus was in favour.

Also discussed was the reactions of members of the public at the time of construction of the wind farm at Coal Clough.

THE Shanks landfill site on Bacup Road has not been granted an extension of permission, as rumour had suggested. The site is due for completion in 2007.

THE bus shelter at the Ram Inn has still not been removed. Burnley Borough Council need confirmation from the Parish Council of their wish for it to be taken down.

THE vacancy for a councillor has been advertised on notice boards. The council will, if possible, co-opt at their next meeting on October 18.

INFORMATION has been received on the Parish Review, which is being held in the near future.

It has been stressed that the coulcil needs to keep in touch with everything that is involved in the review as the future funding of parish councils could be affected by what decisions are taken.

THE issue of speeding cars in Red Lees Road is to be included in a Community Safety Scheme, which will begin shortly.

Cameras will monitor the situation and speeds recorded, then if it is found to be necessary, permanent speed cameras could be installed.

CRACA will hold a litter pick and bulb planting day on Saturday 5 October, everyone is welcome to take part.

The road race, held in August, raised over £500 for the community association funds.

A PARISHIONER told the meeting of concerns regarding speeding cars on the A646 through Holme Chapel.

Councillors were very sympathetic and totally agreed with her views.

The issue has been discussed regularly at previous meetings.

The possibility of 'rumble strips' was discussed, but it was felt that nothing would be done until the road is de-trunked, which it is due to be in the future.
