AT last Bury have raised a winning flag and their first victory of the season at Southampton on Saturday was a splendid achievement following their goalless draw at Plymouth on Wednesday night. If the match at The Dell could have finished with Southampton victorious, Bury well-earned the points because of their greater consistency during the 2-1 win.

There were periods when the home side were in command, but there were always seemed to be more threat in the intelligent moves of the Shakers' attack.

When Plant and his colleagues moved forward the home defence was far more worried than Bury's rearguard were in repelling the home raids.
