AROUND 100 jobs are expected to go before the end of the year as Ingersoll Rand phases out its compressor manufacturing division.

Employees are currently working their notice at the Swan Lane factory, in Hindley Green.

Some are due to leave at the end of this month and others will follow at the end of each consecutive month, until manufacturing ceases at the plant by the end of the year.

A spokesman for Ingersoll Rand said: "We are in the process of a phase run down of the manufacturing of compressors. The rest of the site will remain open and where possible we are doing our best to re-employ people within alternative areas of the company."
