TESCO bosses have apologised to a woman who discovered an insect in her bread.

Kerry Croak said she was "disgusted" when she opened a pack of Tesco's own brand baps to discover the bug in one of them and now an investigation is under way to find out how it got there.

She bought the rolls at Tesco's main Blackburn superstore in Hill Street and discovered the insect after keeping the = in the freezer over a weekend.

Tesco today promised to investigate the incident.

A spokesman for the store said: "We do not want things like this to happen and it does not do anybody any good.

"A full investigation will be carried out to find out how the insect got there and if there are measures that can be put in place to stop it happening again.

"We apologise sincerely for this incident and for any shock that the customer has experienced or suffered."

Kerry, who works as a manageress for Stanley Racing in Rishton said: "I couldn't believe it when I opened the pack. I felt sick. I've never seen anything like it before."

Kerry, 23, of Mowbray Avenue, Blackburn, rang the store to demand answers about where the bug came from.

She said: "They just asked me to bring it back to the store and offered me a refund, but I want to know how it got there and what they are going to do about avoiding a repeat of this."

She visited the store on Tuesday and met a store manager who assured her that there would be no repeat of the problem.

A spokesman for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's Environmental Health Department said that although they normally investigate such incidents, a large company such as Tesco was well equipped to deal with the matter.
