CLITHEROE get their chance to go back to the top of NWCL Division One when they travel to current leaders Prescot Cables tomorrow.

Lee Sculpher's men currently lie second in the table, three points behind in-form Prescot.

But with a goal difference of 13, one less than tomorrow's opponents, who finished second in the league last season, they will go back to the top if they win in Merseyside.

The Blues are full of confidence after their 3-0 mauling of fellow title contenders Salford City at Shawbridge last Saturday.

Not only did they beat one of the fancied teams in the league, the win came just days after a disappointing performance and defeat against Mossley. So after showing such character to bounce back and defeat Salford, Sculpher will be looking for more of the same against Prescot, who will be an even tougher proposition, especially on their own patch.

The two teams met on the opening day of the season and got a 1-1 draw - Clitheroe's goal was scored by Chris Whittingham.

Both teams have done well in recent seasons - Clitheroe finished second in the league the season before last - and tomorrow's game could be crucial in terms of winning that one promotion place to the UniBond League.

It is still only September, but Clitheroe will not want to go six points behind the leaders.
