I AM so annoyed at continually reading in the national newspapers of how there are 100 applicants chasing each firefighter post, giving the impression that our firefighters are so easily dispensable and others are willing to take their jobs.
What the media fails to mention is that the majority of them are rejected at various stages of their application, be it that they don't have the required fitness level, the mental ability or the correct attitude to become a firefighter.
There may be 100 chasing each vacancy but have they the ability and are they capable of doing the job?
