ARMED officers are on the streets of Leigh and surrounding towns as part of a high profile police operation aimed at preventing hits on cash-carrying security vans.
And to get the message across over 100 'we've got our eyes on you' Christmas card messages were sent out by police to known criminals.
A dedicated team of armed officers are working alongside others involved in a joint industry and police operation covering routes and destinations of cash carrying vehicles backed by India 99, the GMP helicopter, which will target hot spot areas.
Cash in transit vehicles are covered en route by CCTV equipped security vans while high value businesses will have the added protection of firearms officers.
Detective Sergeant Bill Nelson of Leigh Operational Policing Unit, said: "This joint initiative aims to reassure members of our community and the security industry staff that cash-in-transit robberies will not be tolerated.
"Armed officers are following routes where cash deliveries are made."
