A FOUR legged "ram-raider" is terrorising a quiet Burnley neighbourhood.

The unwelcome visitor turned up in the garden of a home in Standen Hall Close.

Bemused residents Andrew and Una Geoghegan are at a loss as to how the ram ended up munching on their plants and lawn.

Andrew, 38, said: "We just opened the curtains and there he was. We usually get foxes and hedgehogs because this used to be farmland, but this is the first time we have had a ram!"

After a quick tour of the neighbourhood, the ram returned to the Geoghegans' garden, and settled down for the night. "He must like something in the garden. We threw him an apple out, so it may be the food," Andrew said.

The cheeky ram has also been watching the television through windows at the rear of the house.

"I think he wants to move in with us," said Andrew. "We've had to close the curtains to stop him watching the telly."

Andrew is still none the wiser about how the ram ended up in his back garden.

He continued: "The RSPCA told me they can't do anything unless it is distressed and the police said they can't do anything because it's a matter for the RSPCA."

The family have contacted farmers, but no one seems to know where he comes from or how he got to Standen Hall Close.

An RSPCA spokesman said the animal could have escaped from a vehicle.

"We have not had any missing rams reported so we have no idea where it came from either. If the ram is getting to be a problem for the family then we would send one of our inspectors out to investigate."
