A MAN from Atherton has been jailed and another from Leigh remanded in custody following Wigan & Leigh Housing action to address anti-social behaviour on its estates.

Tyrone Atherton (aka Banks), 26, of Bridges Street, Howe Bridge ignored warnings and breached an injunction. He was arrested and last month sentenced by Liverpool County Court to three days imprisonment. He later appeared at Bolton Crown Court on criminal charges relating to the breach of the injunction and is now serving a 39 month custodial sentence.

Dean Aruoture (aka Hackett), 37, repeatedly caused nuisance and threatened people on Leigh's Diamond Street estate. Wigan & Leigh Housing gained a court injunction extended to May 28, 2003 and he is barred from the Diamond Street estate. If he breaches the order, he faces up to two years imprisonment, a fine or both.

He is in custody for 90 days for criminal matters relating to the breach of injunction.

Peter Gee, Chief Executive of Wigan and Leigh Housing Company, said: "Howe Bridge residents will be relieved that Mr Atherton has been removed from their community for some considerable time. This has been a particularly frustrating period for all of them and I hope his sentence will give them some respite.

"The injunction against Aruoture was initially sought to protect our contractors and local people, and we believe we have now achieved that. I would urge members of the community to contact my Tenancy Relations Team should Aruoture breach his injunction upon release. Calls will be dealt with in the strictest confidence."
