Mike Howard was comprehensively outgunned but managed to salvage one point for Classic.

Graham Collier was equally up against it and went down 3-0. It was Tod Bulmer, Mark Taylor and Howard Thornley who really delivered for the Leigh team. Bulmer looked destined for defeat despite all his fighting qualities. He hung in and in a superb contest finally lost 9-6 in the fifth game.

Taylor had an equally exciting and hard fought game but managed to pull off a decisive victory in the fifth game. Howard Thornley too looked to be booked for the losers spot but stuck grimly to the task in hand and wore down his opponent in four games. Classic narrowly lost the match 3-1.

Classic 2 played host to a much improved Bowdon team.

Dave Hollingworth and Jim Capon were soundly beaten. Lynda Gregory also lost 3-0 but the extremely close games scores of her match showed just how this game could have gone either way.

It seemed that Vic Moses had the beating of his opponent but after losing concentration in the third game was unable to fight back and lost 3-1. Dave Haines snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after easily winning the first two games; Haines allowed his opponent back into the game the score reaching two games all. Regaining composure in the final game, Dave battled to be serving for the match.

It was not to be and the match slipped away 3-2. Classic lost 5-0.
