TONY Hancock has been voted the best ever radio comedian.

I agree, though in the 50s and 60s before TV really took off in my grandma's household we spent every early evening listening to comedy shows on the wireless while playing ludo, whist or beetle for gob stoppers.

I loved The Clitheroe Kid, The Navy Lark, Beyond Our Ken, The Al Reid Show and Leigh's own Ken "I'll not take my coat off I'm not stopping" Platt.

Radio entertainment was far superior to TV in those days and I still have a penchant for it.

There's still not much that can beat "The News Hudd Lines" for laughs.
