This time the scene was Mill Hill, Blackburn.

As the election result itself was announced there was despair for members of the community who had gathered outside the building.

A clear warning came from Oldham councillor Mohammed Azam. Speaking to Asian Image he said, "This is very sad for Blackburn and a clear wake-up call for the town. I thought we had a problem in Oldham but it seems things are similar here.

"We still have a lot of work to do because we cannot keep letting these racists get a foothold."

Sabby Dhala, is a member of the National Assembly for Racism and travelled from London to protest outside the Election count. She said, "This is a terrible blow for Blackburn and the rest of Britain. The British National Party jump on minor issues and perpetuate rumours."

"The Coalition believes the Asian communities should be an essential part of any protests and not just an appendage."

The BNP won by 16 votes in the end with a higher than average turnout - 39.5%.

The Anti-Nazi League has campaigned against the Far Right throughout the country.

Jess Edwards, East Lancashire Organiser for the ANL told us, "There has been far too much complacency and if you ignore them they will not go away. That was not the case in Burnley and it has not been the case here."

Jamil Shiekh, 29 has been campagining against racism with the ANL since he was a student. 'It is all too easy to give your moral support to the group but I just wish there were more Asian faces here demonstrating."

Liberal Democrat Councillor Imtiaz Patel was clearly disappointed at the result, "It brings to the forefront the work of mainstream parties.

"We campaigned very hard in very bad situations. I also feel political members of our community could have been more involved. I feel our organisations could have got more involved in the political process."

Among the claims used by the far right was one concerning a bid of £4.5 million put forward by Blackburn with Darwen Council for its town centre strategy.

Despite claims to the contrary the council says the money will not be going solely to Whalley Range. That ward was merely one of many areas that would benefit from the regeneration.
