IT would appear from Councillor Dave Smith's remarks (Letters, December 9) that the message which most council tax payers in Pleasington, Turton, Lammack and other similar areas of Blackburn with Darwen are trying to get across is falling on deaf ears.

They are not asking for large amounts of regeneration money to be spent on their wards. What they do expect is a small amount of their council tax to be spent on council-funded playgrounds, sports facilities and community centres which are being provided in most wards.

The Labour group on the council cannot command respect until they treat all areas of the borough equally. We, as a Conservative group, would treat all areas of the borough equally on providing these facilities.

After all, we are all citizens of Blackburn with Darwen.

Councillor DEREK HARDMAN, Conservative spokesman on culture, leisure and sport, Blackburn with Darwen Council.
