I do not know why people are concerned about Chelverton's plans killing businesses in the city centre - the City Council has already done that with its high rates.

The shopping is limited and the market may as well close, and to add to this a charge of £30 is levied on Christmas shoppers who underest-imate the queuing time in shops.

In my case I was criminalised for 11 minutes over parking time.

I am of course talking about traffic wardens and parking fines.

Never having had a parking fine before I am aggrieved.

I for one will not do my Christmas shopping in Lancaster again, not this year anyway.

I would rather wait and go to another town that welcomes drivers who spend longer browsing in shops and spending their hard earned money than they had intended.

Another point I would like to raise is why does Hilton Dawson think Lancaster is a suitable place to represent the North West as its capital?

Lancaster lost its county town position due to corruption and fraud.

That was a long time ago, but in recent years there has been lots of controversy about incompetence from all political persuasions.

In your paper, Hilton makes the claim that Lancaster has good transport links and is located centrally in the region.

Is there an-other town called Lancaster located to the south which has good transport links, world class businesses and proximity to rural communities?

I live seven miles from my place of work yet it takes 45 minutes to get there (on a good day).

It takes even longer on a bus because all the routes cover at least a 15-mile journey instead.

Local transport is appalling and rural communities are not well served.
