A PROPOSED town centre community farm has already raised some concerns.

The council is considering a scheme which would see a farm built somewhere in the centre of the town.

Councillor Roger Frost said: "A large number of organisations are supporting the idea of establishing such a facility in the town.

"It should be pointed out that no decisions have been made about the proposed community farm and no council funds have been allocated to the project."

Although the plans are still in a very early stage possible sties have been identified. These include land at Oswald Street, the former coal yards and Old Hall Farm in the Daneshouse and Stoneyholme ward.

According to councillors in Daneshouse and Stoneyholme, residents there have concerns about the plans and the amount of open spaces in the area.

Stoneyholme councillor Mozaquir Ali said: "Our ward does not have many open spaces. Let's think about putting the farm elsewhere because it might not be suitable for that area."

In response to those concerns Coun Frost added: "People living adjacent to those sites do have reservations but there will be a full consultation with the residents of that area."
