DENIS UNDERWOOD takes charge of his second match as Nelson manager in the NWCL Division Two clash against Stone Dominoes tomorrow and said: "We can use this game as a yardstick."
The new Blues boss saw his side get a point from a 0-0 draw at free-scoring Darwen last Saturday in his first game in charge.
And he will use tomorrow's match against title contenders Stone as another opportunity to assess his squad.
"I was quite happy last week because they'd won four or five on the trot," said the former Great Harwood boss.
"And we could easily have won; we missed a penalty.
"The back four put in a solid performance but we gave the ball away too easily in midfield.
"We didn't score but we created chances and that was pleasing. Carl (Howarth) looked dangerous and Paddy Connelly had chances.
"Tomorrow's game is my chance to see us against a fancied side. We can use it as a yardstick."
