RESIDENTS in Pendle could sleep warmer in their beds if they take advantage of a partnership between the council and energy company Powergen.

House owners and private landlords are eligible for subsidised cavity wall and loft insulation.

The council said that insulating the walls and roof of a house could reduce fuel bills by up to 33 per cent as 35per cent of all energy from a house was lost through walls, 25 per cent through the roof, 15 per cent through doors and 10 per cent through windows.

Jim Cooper, Pendle Council's principal building inspector, said: "This scheme has the support of the building control departments of local authorities."
