TESTS are under way at a Hoddlesden factory to make sure the NHS bandages they produce have not been contaminated by vandals.

Children smashed their way into Vernon Carus on Sunday night and sprayed fire extinguishers over sterile machines, used for making bandages, burns dressings and swabs for the NHS.

The mess caused by vandals, who also used the company phones to call sex lines, was cleared up by Tuesday.

Roland Spencer, works manager, said: "We are testing the fabric because we have to be certain that everything is all right.

"We have been operational since Monday but it will probably take another two days before the fabric is given the all clear."
