WHATEVER the result from the Premiership clash at Ewood Park tomorrow, Rovers and United will meet again next month in the two-legged Worthington Cup semi-final.

Rovers have confirmed the dates for their two-legged Worthington Cup semi-final clash with United with the first game at Old Trafford scheduled for Tuesday January 7 (kick-off 8pm) while the second leg will go ahead at Ewood on Wednesday, January 22 (kick-off 8pm).

And Blackburn boss Graeme Souness knows his side will have to be at their best to get the chance to defend their trophy in Cardiff.

Souness added: "I don't think there is ever a good time to play them.

"A lot of people were writing them off which I felt was a big, big mistake.

"You only have to look at the quality they have got to realise that."

Meanwhile Rovers manager Souness is facing a five-match touchline ban after being banished from the bench against Wigan in midweek.

It was the second time this season he has landed himself in trouble but he has appealed for understanding from match officials.

He said: "People on the touchline, the referees and fourth officials have to understand that I have been doing this for 35 years, I'm passionate about football and nobody and nothing will change that.

"Sometimes we get excited and I would ask referees, fourth officials and linesmen to understand that, and I'm not alone."
