EWOOD chief Graeme Souness may have to explore the possibility of bringing players in on loan when the Premiership transfer window opens at the start of next month.

Souness has been told he will have to generate his own transfer cash through players sales in January.

But, with no outward moves for any of his fringe players currently forthcoming, he may have to go down the loan route instead.

"I'd love to be in the situation where I can go out and buy a couple of players but that's not going to be the case, unfortunately," said Souness.

"But we are looking to do something with a loan."

Next months' relaxing of the transfer rules is likely to spark a stampede amongst Premiership managers in their quest for reinforcements.

But Souness believes the introduction of the new system has forced managers to change their attitudes towards signing players.

"Given that we've got transfer windows now it gives you plenty of time to decide what you need," said Souness.

"Every manager thinks he needs something different at 5 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon because every time a game finishes you start thinking to yourself maybe we should strengthen here or there.

"But with the way it now works with the windows, I think a lot more rational decisions will be made."
