FORESTRY experts displayed their skills at a series of demonstrations at the Beacon Fell Country Park.

Members of the Lancashire County Council Forestry Team demonstrated how they cut and transport timber, and use it to make stiles, steps and bridges.

Visitors were able to see how quickly and easily a mobile sawmill can turn a tree into posts, rails and boards.

They also took part in the planting of native broadleaf trees, which provide a rich and varied habitat for wildlife, and enhance the beauty of the popular park.

County Coun Tim Ormrod said: "Management of Beacon Fell is a year-round activity and the open day provided a unique opportunity to find out more about how this work is undertaken at one of Lancashire's best-loved country parks."
