TWO men who ended up in court after an alleged attack over control of a mosque have been cleared -- as a judge called for peace.

Qados Ahmed, 47 and Mehdi Khan, 52, were found not guilty of unlawful wounding and battery after a two-day trial at Burnley Crown Court.

Discharging the defendants, Judge Raymond Bennett, who had been told of falling out and animosity over the running of the Ghosia Jamia Mosque, Nelson, said he did not want to hear of any more trouble there.

Ahmed, of Railway Street, and Khan, of Lomeshaye Road, both Nelson, denied allegations against them. The court heard claims alleged victim Mohammed Noor was attacked by the men after being lured into a room at the Clayton Street mosque.

The prosecution had alleged Noor was hit in the face by Khan and was kicked and hit by both men. Mr Noor was said to have suffered injuries to his eye and ribs, but both defendants told police Mr Noor hurt himself after he and Khan had struggled and he hit his head. Both Ahmed and Khan said Khan did not strike Mr Noor.
