BURY will be aiming to register their first double of the season when they make the long trip to South Wales to take on struggling Swansea City.

The Swans are currently three points adrift at the foot of the Third Division table and - keen not to fall further behind their closest rivals - are desperate that the match goes ahead despite this week's icy weather.

It was on a sun-baked August day that they made the trip to Gigg Lane when goals from George Clegg, Jon Newby and Danny Swailes sent them to a 3-2 defeat in an entertaining encounter. It's sure to be a few degrees colder on Saturday afternoon!

The Vetch Field pitch was still frozen under light dusting of snow on Thursday, but the club's officials are eager to give the match every chance of going ahead with a timely thaw expected.

Bury boss Andy Preece is also keen for the game to be played to avoid slipping from the hard-earned third place the Shakers have achieved.

"As long as there is no danger to the players then I will be happy to play," he said.

"We don't want the game to be called off and us lose our position in the league. We have had a nice break since New Year but are now desperate to get out there.

Conditions

"We will all have come across these conditions in our career and all we can do is draw from that. You can't prepare for them."

Preece has a fully-fit squad to choose from but will still have a hole to fill at left back with Jamie Stuart and Colin Woodthorpe both serving one-match suspensions.

Stuart picked up his ban after being sent off against Shrewsbury on Boxing Day while Woodthorpe was handed his fifth yellow card of the season in the same game.

Former Shaker Matt Murphy will not be taking on his old club after a cruciate knee ligament injury rules him out for two months but former Shakers midfielder Paul Reid is expected to play after missing two matches with a hamstring problem.

The Swans have been boosted by the signing of Rochdale right winger Kieran Durkan who is expected to make his debut.
